If you can find a book that makes your child laugh, getting them to read is so much easier! At least it worked for us.
We had a light bulb moment a couple of summers ago, when one of our middle boys was 7 years old – he was having such trouble and hated trying to read. Most of his classmates could read and he just couldn’t (or didn’t think he could) – something was standing in his way.
Then we discovered the books of Mo Willems – he’s a genius!! The ‘Pigeon’ and ‘Elephant & Piggie’ series of books are a scream and your kids will get a kick out of reading the dialogue, all written in word bubbles. They really are clever and entertaining, even for the adults.
We found a bunch at the public library, so you don’t have to go out and buy them. There are about a dozen books in the ‘Pigeon’ series and twice that many of ‘Elephant & Piggie’. And they’re not the only titles you will find by Mo Willems.
Give them a try!
